In 1943, Myrl Heston wrote to his cousin in the South Pacific and said, "Virl, I bought a Paradise." Myrl and his wife Peggy operated Heston's until 1971, when Myrl passed away.
Peggy continued to run things with various family members until 1984. She still lives in Grand Marais, where, at 90 years young, she is finally enjoying retirement from the Johnson Heritage Post Art Gallery.

Sharlene, daughter of Myrl and Peggy, ran the lodge with her husband Chuck from 1979 until 1989. Sharlene still lives near the lodge she has called home since early childhood.

Greg, son of Sharlene and Chuck, and his wife, Barb, took over in 1989.
We have three children, Robert, Paul and Addie, who assist in the operation of the lodge and cabins. We all enjoy hiking and reading, as well as traveling in our big green school bus. Greg brews beer, hunts, fishes for lake trout, and takes photos.

Barb likes all forms of fiber arts, particularly crazy-quilting. She also is becoming a fledgling birder.

Robert is a bike enthusiast, and enjoys hunting with his father. Paul likes to draw cartoons and writes many fantasy stories. Addie is the most prolific reader of us all, and also enjoys crafts and time spent with her friends.
