Diamond Willow Cabin
Diamond Willow cabin is our only frame-style cabin. It is a two-story building, with the distinct advantage of being within feet of the water's edge. Listen to the waves lap the shore; throw a rock into the lake right from the deck. You are so close, you will see and hear it splash.
The cabin was originally built in 1973 by Greg's parents, Chuck and Sharlene. They used it as their vacation getaway until the early 80's, when they moved in to the lodge. At that point, it was remodeled to accommodate visitors, and twice has been updated since then.
The large living room and kitchen have windows looking out to the deck and the lake. Mexican tiles line the countertops, brought back from Arizona on our schoolbus camper, back in 2000. A breakfast nook affords a lovely view to Gunflint Lake, the perfect spot to enjoy that first cup of coffee in the morning.
The master bedroom on the main floor has a queen-size bed, and a lovely antique dresser dating back to the 1860's. A doorway leads out to the screen porch.
Past the tree and up the stairs, you'll find two more bedrooms. One has two twin beds, the other has a full-size bed and a twin bed. Diamond Willow cabin can accommodate 6-8 people quite comfortably.
Throughout the cabin, rustic pieces of furniture built from diamond willow trees add a note of interest to the setting. If you look closely, you will see the diamonds in the grain.
The bathroom, remodeled in 2010, has modern facilities that include a shower. The cabin is heated with a gas furnace, and has a fireplace-woodstove in the living room.
