What is Trail Time? 

It's that feeling you get when you no longer need to look at your watch, checking to see if you are on schedule for your next commitment.  Don't even bring your watch when you come!  It is the opportunity to completely let go and unwind from the pace of the place from which you came.  As you leave home and drive the highways, you will find the road leading to Heston's gradually becoming smaller, with less traffic and more scenery.  That's a good time to begin to step out of your usual roles, and let yourself enjoy the little things again. By the time you reach the last mile of the drive, the cedars and pine trees that line our end of the road will tell you what's truly important:  This moment, right now.

Heston's Lodge is a small, multi-generation resort on Gunflint Lake.  We may not be the oldest lodge here in these woods, but we are one of four that has remained in the family since the early years of the Trail.  We maintain seven cabins, ranging in age from the early 1930's to the "newest" two built in 1991.  Most  are log cabins, something that has become increasingly rare these days.  If you are looking for the coziness and comfort that only logs can provide, take a look at what we have  to offer.

The Gunflint Trail is home to many excellent recreation opportunities.  Located in the Superior National Forest, and adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, it is easy to immerse oneself in the wilderness.   Hiking, canoeing and boating, and fishing are favorites in the summer.  Winter brings cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and ice-fishing.  Active days followed by restful nights in the peacefulness of the Northwoods make for a refreshing vacation. Or just kick back in the cabin and enjoy the quiet of the woods, the wind in the trees, and the waves on the lake.
